Within a 9 month period of time, my hard drive failed about 4 times, but the first was by far the worst. Because I had installed Carbonite about a year before, I thought I had insured myself against data loss. But, there was one major problem. When the drive failed and I needed my backup, I realized that I had selected the option to keep my own encryption key instead of having Carbonite store it for me. That was my downfall and a mistake that I’ve since corrected. However, it cost me a lot of personal and business data that will never be retrieved. So beware and be sure that there is more than one way to access your data in case the need arises.

Owning a PC is a lot like owning a car, service it regularly and do regular small repairs and it will run problem free for years. Fail to service it and eventually it will have a major breakdown. Your PC is the same it needs to have regular maintenance done to it so it can run smoothly. Many people fail to do this and instead of having a computer that last 5 to 10 as their designed to, they’re lucky to get three years out of it. Unless you like spending money you don’t have to there’s no reason that your computer shouldn’t last five years or more.

If you take the time to do the simple tasks like de-fragmenting your hard drive, emptying cache files and deleting temporary files, registry cleaning and updating software. Your PC should run smoothly and performance should be like new for years. However if you don’t do these simply tasks then you’ll find your computer having many problems. Here five of the most common problems that people have with their PC’s.

1. Crashes, Locking Up and the ‘Blue screen of death’

Most commonly these problems are caused by spyware. To get rid of this install anti-spyware software or if you already have software installed make sure it’s updated to the latest version and run a full scan of your system. Ensure your hardware drivers are up to date. Out of date hardware drivers can cause numerous problems. Often the blue screen of death is caused by a random access memory problem (RAM) when you see this there should be an error code shown. Write this down and take it to you computer supplier who should have a database to check what the problem is.

2. Your computer reboots itself automatically and without warning.

This is almost always a hardware issue, usually to do with your cooling system or power supply. Try cleaning out your cooling fans often they get full if dust and dirt. Your computer cannot cool itself and switches off to avoid overheating. If this does not seem to be the case check all the wires in your computer are attached correctly, overtime wires can come loose and cause issues with your power supply.

3. Computers making loud noises.

Once again the fans are often the main culprit here being them moving part in your PC. Check they are clean and remove any build up of dirt from them and make sure no loose wires are hanging around the fans. Check all the screws in your computer as often they can work themselves loose and cause pieces of the housing to rattle. If the problem doesn’t seem to be a loose wire or fan, it may be a good idea to back up your important data. Hard drives are made up of spinning disks and if they start making unusual noises it can often means there on their last legs. Back up your vital data and have a qualified technician have a look at it.

4. Pops ups keep popping up and your home page/default page has been changed.

This is a spyware problem. Commonly known as ‘high jacking’ Somewhere along the way spyware has been installed on your computer from clicking on a webpage, through an email or one of the other numerous ways. This will require good quality up to date anti-spyware or in some cases anti-virus software to remove.

5. Computer performance has slowed down

This is by far the most common complaint. Often it’s not a hard fix to get a significant gain in performance by performing a few simple tasks. Deleting all temporary files, de-fragmenting your hard drive, installing updates, using an up to date anti-spyware program and ensuring there aren’t numerous programs and services running in the back ground chewing up all your processing power. Doing these simple things will make a huge difference to your PC’s performance.

As you can see there are a number of things you can easily do to ensure your PC runs smoothly and problem free. As long as they are performed regularly then your computer should run fast and reliable for years. If you run into serious problems then find a computer repair service with qualified technicians to perform a service on your PC to get it up and running.

Honestly, renting a computer doesn’t cross the minds of many people. Now seen as a staple of daily life, computers are personal, are something that a person identifies with and uses many times throughout their day. Sometimes, though, circumstances come around in which you can’t have access to your personal computer, but are in need of a computer to get you through your work, school, or other activities. In these cases, renting a computer may actually be a viable option.

The following situations depict instances where renting a computer might be the best way to go:

You’re working on a job that is offsite or that has no access to your personal computer. Your entire team needs laptops to get the job done, but you don’t want to have to buy 5 or so computers that will only be used for a few weeks. Renting is a great option in this case.

It’s the end of the semester and you’re studying for your final exams. Most of your study tools are found online or are saved as .pdf’s to your hard drive. In an attempt to make it through the study session you brew a pot of coffee, which you promptly spill all over your computer. You don’t have the money to buy a new laptop now, but you have to have a computer to ace these exams. The perfect solution is to rent a computer to get you through the end of the semester.

You are working on something that requires a special kind of computer, one you don’t have. The project will only last a week or so and you can’t justify spending hundreds of dollars on a machine you won’t ever use again. A rental is a great way to get the machine you need at a fraction of the cost of buying it.

Once you’ve determined that you’re ready to rent a computer, take the time to really understand what it is you need from the machine. Consider the nature of the project, the length of time you need the rental, and the price. Also, consider the options you have when it comes to rental facilities. If you follow these tips, you will be sure to find a great deal on a wonderful rental:

Make a list. Be prepared with specifications concerning the memory, hard drive, programs, and software that you need to have access to.

Know your budget. This may require a bit of research, but know what the average price is for the rental of the machine you will be using. Be realistic about how much you are willing to spend and make sure that, whatever the cost may be, it’s much lower than purchasing the computer outright.

Only rent from a reputable source. Computers can store information about the people who use them and the files they handle. To keep your identity safe, especially if you are working with sensitive information, make sure you only rent from a store that has a great reputation. If you don’t feel comfortable, don’t make the purchase.

Renting a computer can be a great alternative to purchasing one, as long as you understand the nature of the transaction and the true worth of your savings. Follow these tips and you should be well on your way to a happy rental agreement.

Organizing a new network or choosing new hardware for an office can be an extremely technical, complicated, and intimidating task. Technology is always changing and the industry’s jargon can be extremely confusing for those who are not used to it. In order to ensure that you invest in the right products, at the very best price, it may be to your advantage to hire a computer consultant.

Consultants work in a large variety of ways, from helping you design your hardware and software networks to recommending the best products that the market has to offer. A good consultant should be knowledgeable about every available product and should be able to explain the benefits, as well as the setbacks, of each product in an easy to understand and comprehensive manner.

Finding the right computer consultant can be a difficult task, but if you have patience and know exactly what to look for in a technology professional you will be able to locate and hire the perfect consultant for your needs. By following these tips, you will be ready to not only find a great consultant, but to entrust your computer needs to their expert care.

Know exactly what you need. When going over your project, keep track of the different aspects of it that you will need assistance with. Have you already picked out your hardware? Do you need help setting up a network? Would you like to invest in remote assistance or network management? Given your vast or limited knowledge concerning computers, you may be able to do some of this work yourself. If you know exactly what you are looking for, you can find a consultant that specializes in your computer needs.

Search for your perfect professional. Online searches are a great way to discover amazing companies and freelance consultants. Once you know exactly what you need you can focus your search and find results based on your unique project. While conducting an online search, be sure to pay attention to any reviews or articles about the companies you may be considering.

Talk to the consultant. Before signing any agreement, talk with each consultant on a one-on-one basis. If they want your business they will be more than happy to accommodate this request. Pay attention to how the consultant treats you and make sure that you understand everything he or she says. If the consultant is not willing to put details about his or her services into terms that you can understand, they should be taken out of the running.

Let the consultant do his or her job. You may be more than willing to help in the process, but once you have found a professional that you trust it is best to let them have free reign. As long as your contract is clear and you have hired an expert, you can be sure that the job will be done correctly.

Hiring a computer consultant may be a bit scary at first, but once you find the right individual or company to work with it should be a stress-free and fairly quick experience.

The decision to buy a computer has become an easy one. Computers have become a necessity to every household and every business in the whole world. Most places have already forsaken the old storage media, and the old data keeping ways like having these big books where they used to have all the necessary information.

The choice between Notebook net computers and desktop computers must depend on personal needs. The buyer should have a check point list for what he might need and what he might skip. The price, need for mobility, available physical space, the need for frequent hardware upgrades and whether the PC will be used for one’s personal use or public use.

If the buyer is looking for a PC that would be available for him wherever he may go, then he must pick a notebook net computer. Business men, university professors, politicians, programmers and students usually pick notebook computers.

When buying computers for public use purposes, as in banks, municipalities and enterprises, a desktop might be better, desktop computers are generally considered cheaper than notebook computers. Another reason for going with desktop computers in this case is privacy issues, limiting the amount of computers attached to a network is a must. That’s why having a glued to its place desktop computer would be a good choice.

The space in your room and on your desk can be a factor. A notebook computer occupies a much smaller space as compared to desktop.

One of the greatest inventions of the time is obviously the computer. Billions of people use computers in their daily life throughout the world. Throughout decades, computer has evolved from a very expensive and slow device to today’s extremely smart machines with unbelievable processing power.

No single person was credited with the invention of computer, many believe that Konrad Zuse and his Z1 machine was the first in a long line of innovations that gave us the computer of today. Konrad Zuse was a German who was famous for the creation of the first freely programmable mechanical computing device in 1936. Zuse’s Z1 was created with a focus on 3 basic elements that are still necessary in today’s calculators. Later, Konrad Zuse created Z2 and the Z3.

The first of the MARK series computers were being built at Harvard. The MARK I began in 1944 and this computer was huge filling in a room having a size of 55 feet long by 8 feet high. The MARK I could perform a wide variety of calculations. It became a success and was utilized by the US Navy. It was in service till 1959.

The ENIAC computer was one of most important achievements in computing. It was commissioned during World War II and used by the US military. Vacuum tubes were used by this computer instead of electric motors and levers for fast calculations. Its speed was about thousand times faster than any other calculating device during that time. This computer was enormous and had a total cost of $500,000. The ENIAC was in operation till 1955.

RAM or Random Access Memory was first introduced in 1964. The first RAM was a metal detector plate positioned close to a vacuum tube which detected the difference in electrical charges. It was an easy way of storing computer instructions.

There were plenty of innovations in the 1940s. The Manchester Baby was developed by Telecommunications Research Establishment. It was the first computer to use a stored program and it went live in 1948. The Manchester MARK I went live in 1951 and showed tremendous progress against computers. Researchers had found that there was a huge chance of development for the computer.

The UNIVAC which stands for Universal Automatic Computer was built by the creators of ENIAC. It was the fastest and most innovative computer capable of handling many computations. It was a masterpiece of its time and was praised by public.

IBM is known for creating the first personal computer widely affordable and available to the people. IBM 701 was the first general purpose computer developed by IBM. The new computer language called FORTRAN was used in the new 701. Other IBM computers also followed like the 704. The IBM 7090 also was a big success and it dominated business computers for the next 20 years. In the late 1970’s and into 1980 IBM developed a personal computer known as the PC. IBM has had a huge influence on the computers used today.

In 1984, the Apple Macintosh was released and Apple computers dominated the market. It was not a quick success. It went into production from January of 1984 to October of 1985.

With the growth of personal computer market in the early and mid 1980s, many companies realized that GUI or Graphical User Interface was user friendly. This led to the development of an operating system called Windows by Microsoft. The first version was called Windows 1.0 and later came Windows 2.0 and 3.0 editions. Microsoft is increasingly popular today.

Today, computers are extremely powerful and more affordable than ever. They have practically infiltrated into every aspect of our lives. It is used as a powerful tool of communication and commerce. The future is computer is tremendous.

All aspects of a computer like its memory, size, speed, graphics options, and screen resolution, are improving every day. The result is that after hardly two years of using a computer, the user starts to feel that he is using an oxcart in the jet age. Though there will be some differences between the old and new models, it is not as wide it is touted to be. Proper computer upgrades will bridge the gap and make the old one give good service for another two years.

Whether it is the owner himself, or any computer services center that is doing the computer upgrades, it is important to know the type of memory of the present computer. There are several types of RAM available in the market, and computers are designed in a way as to support only one particular type of memory. The manufacturers of the computer will be able to give the information on the type of RAM supported by the computer.

Computer services centers will have their own tools to check the memory type. For owners who do not have in-depth knowledge of computers, there are certain online tools that help in checking the memory type of a computer. If you feed it the name of the manufacturer, product line and model, it will return with the type of memory used in it.

Besides RAM, the other things that are changed while doing computer upgrades are video card and hard drive. The power of the video card is altered either by completely replacing the card or by adding RAM to it. The changed video card, that has its own processor and increased RAM, will substantially enhance the speed and quality of graphic operations.

A hard drive upgrade is a must for all types of computer upgrades. By increasing the hard disk space, much more data can be stored, and new programs can be installed. It will also speed up the computer. Hard disk can be upgraded either by completely replacing it, or by keeping the old one intact and adding a new one. The former is the better option, the only problem being that it will entail the additional job of copying the matter from the old drive to the new drive.

Computer owners may not be able to avoid computer upgrades altogether, even if they are happy with the speed and screen and size of their present computer. New software, which require increased disk space and memory to function, are mushrooming in the market. Offices may need to use these to increase their business returns. It will be more economically viable for them to go in for computer upgrades than to buy a new machine to accommodate the software.

While any computer upgrade will involve an increase in hard drive space, if the users operations are not graphic related, he may not need to change the video cared. When you get a computer services company to do the upgradation job, they will be able to advise you as to which components you need to upgrade to ensure optimum computer performance in the type of job you are doing.

PCSoft is a Sydney based computer repairs, maintenance, and computer services Company and provides same day onsite pc repairs, computer upgrades and support services anywhere in Sydney and its suburbs.
We are in a world where almost everything is being run by a machine or a computer. Almost everyone now has their own computers which help them do their tasks and jobs easier and faster. Back in the earlier days, calculations were made manually. People who work as collectors calculate their data in an entire day. People hired the brightest of their women to perform a job as a ‘computer’. That’s right, a computer was a person. These computers were the ones who calculated such measurements including astronomical records. You can just imagine how much time it takes them to finish one single calculation. Today, we can answer a whole bunch of formulas within just seconds. And more over, one doesn’t have to be that bright these days to calculate the area of something, because we have the right devices for them.

During the ‘human computers’ era, then came in the time of the ‘abacus’. The abacus is the first ever computer device that has been made for basic calculations such as addition and subtraction. It can also be used for multiplication and division, but takes more complicated steps. It was first introduced by the Chinese.

During the 7th century and the 3rd century BC, the Algorithms and Binary logic have been manipulated. These were writing of ancient people. It is the way they write numbers for their calculations.

The early 1940’s is the dawn of computer science. Before it, people do their own calculations without any helping device. Then scientists and inventors came up with the idea of creating a device that will fasten the calculating jobs. They then got into the birth of machines which were the “analog” types. Years after that, a more reliable and better machine was made which was in a “digital” form. It displays the exact numerical number, unlike the analog which only shows codes and binary digits. That was the beginning of all modern computers today.

Lots of newer kind and better types of computers have been released. Computers started with a good computing ability but in a slower manner. Now, computations are done very quickly. Its history is a very interesting thing to learn. With the advancement and improvement it is now creating to our society, we owe a lot to those people who have ever made the idea of creating computers. Especially now that modern computers continues to upgrade. We can use them in so many ways, not only with computing.

Far more than that, the history of computers is absolutely one of the best stories ever told.
