Buying a Computer

It’s amazing to think that just a few short years ago it might have been possible to make it through life without the aid of a computer.  Today, it’s a different story.  If you don’t have a computer you are not connected.  Furthermore, if your computer crashes you are not only inconvenienced, you are panicked.

In order to make the best decision as you contemplate buying a new computer, consider these steps to make the process easier and less confusing.

First, choose an electronic retail store that meets your hardware or software requirements.  It is perfectly fine to either go to the store in-person to peruse through computers or visit vendors online.

Next, realize that there is never a better time to buy a computer than right now.  While you may think that you can save some money if you wait for a deal or a sale, realize that trends in the computer world are ever changing.  You may want to spend less on the model you have in mind, but understand whatever you are looking at will inevitably cost less in a few months time anyway and there will be something newer and better available.

When you start looking at computers make sure you know what you are going to be using the computer for, this way you can easily communicate with a sales associate to tell them what you do and do not need on the machine.  There is no sense in paying for software or features that you will never use.

Next make the decision over where you are going to be using the computer.  Do you need it to be portable? Or is it okay if it stays at home or your office?  This is the time to decide between a laptop and a desktop.

Choose a brand of computer that is strictly based on the quality of the product, the price and the availability of technical support.  Now is the time to read customer reviews!

Consider features related to the configuration of the computer, amount of RAM, the speed of the processor and how much memory you need.  It is easier to get this all done when the machine is new instead of upgrading later.

It is necessary for you to also determine if you want the following items included with your new computer: ZIP drive, CD recorder, DVD-ROM, CD-ROM, peripheral speakers, modems, sound and video cards, extra monitors, and wireless keyboard and/or mouse.  Decide if you need additional internal card slots for future computer expansion.

Once you have decided on these pieces and the technicians work to get your computer up and running with your requirements, also remember to inform them of the software you would like to have uploaded on the machine. Sometimes retailers can offer deals on this when you buy everything all at once.  Make sure you invest in a good anti-virus software and don’t forget to specify the operating system you want on the computer.

Finally, as you go to check out, opt for the warranty.  It can save a lot of stress and expense in the long run.
